Testing 1, 2, 3...?

People often say that making a good first impression is the most important, and in most cases that's probably true, but for the purpose of this little adventure I hope you are a tad more forgiving. Ya see, I've never written a blog before and quite frankly I'm not all too sure what I am doing! I liken it to fumbling around in the dark for the light switch but on a more public scale. Anyways, baring that in mind let me begin...

Welcome! I’m Sarah and this is my blog about life, love, learning and finding out what I’m meant to do in this crazy world of ours. Ever since I was little, I have always wanted to write but the fear of not being good enough held me back from properly trying. That fear has held me back from a lot of things in life actually… I have spent a lot of my time questioning what people would think of me if I opened up or put myself out there. That hasn’t really changed but I guess as I have gotten older I have started to see how fast life passes by and now I want to make the most of it. So I have started to make some changes!

This last year has been a huge turning point in my life; I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about who I am, what is my purpose here and what will my future be. I really wasn’t happy with where I was and I felt I was stuck in a rut. Now I can’t categorically pin point (and to borrow an Oprah-ism) the “aha” moment but somewhere along the line it dawned on me that I’m the one in charge of my life and only I can determine what path I take. So I decided right then and there that I was taking control. I was going to discover what it was that made me tick and I was going to put myself out there even if it was mega scary.

Fast forward to last Wednesday when I was invited to lunch by my very creative cousin Clare who is a whizz in the kitchen and shares my love of writing. Clare has been author of a fab blog on baking and crafts the last few months (you can find it here – check out some of the recipes) and while I sampled some of her creations, she encouraged me to write my own blog. I figured sure what the hell! I’m trying new things right? I always wanted to write…? But what would I write about? Does it have to be a specific topic or theme? Do I have to steer away from what other people are writing or just try my own version of what is already out there? WHAT IF NO ONE READS IT?! A lot of questions haha, you can see where my voice of doubt usually takes over and wins.

I put it on the back burner for a few days thinking that I was in no rush to come up with what I was going to write about (I think it was the old me trying to get out of committing to it) and went about my mundane life. By chance I happened across an interview of my current favourite band The Civil Wars (check them out here too – you won’t regret it) and in it, Joy said “Every single person walking down the street is fighting a great battle, whether or not you can see it.”

 *Bing* light bulb moment.

I will write about my struggle/journey/adventure/everyday-life existence as I try to pull myself out of my rut and get my life on the path I want it. Other people out there will be in the exact same place as I am, probably feeling the same frustrations or excitement that I feel. I will talk about new hobbies that I am trying, discovering new music or art or movies, anything inspirational that grabs my attention. Basically expanding my horizon. (Ooh I feel like I’m on the Black Pearl ha!)

So here I am - my first blog. I have no set plan for what exactly I will write about or over what time period but I’m sure I will discover that along the way. I do know I want it to be fun, I want it to be real and I want it to be something that others can enjoy so do feel free to comment or give me suggestions about anything at all! And if your still here reading at this stage then thanks, it means a lot xx
